Tracking Mississippi prospects selected in 2020 MLB Draft

While the owners and the players can’t figure out how to get their season started, the 2020 MLB Draft has been completed. Like everything else in the world, this year’s draft has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Typically, the MLB Draft consists of 40 rounds, but this year’s draft featured just 5. 

The first round was completed on Wednesday and rounds 2-5 took place on Thursday. Now that the draft has ended, teams can sign an unlimited number of undrafted free agents for a signing bonus of up to $20,000. 

Below, you can check out which prospects from Mississippi were selected in the draft.

Mississippi State: 

    • Round 1 – Pick 14: Texas Rangers – 2B Justin Foscue

  • Competitive Balance Round A – 30th overall pick: Baltimore Orioles -SS Jordan Westburg

A Bulldog prospect, OF Austin Hendrick from West Allegheny HS in Pennsylvania, was taken by the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th overall pick.

Hendrick’s draft slot is valued at $4.37 million. He has until the August 1st deadline to decide if he’ll sign with Reds or remain committed to Mississippi State.

  • Round 2 – Pick 52: New York Mets – P J.T. Ginn

  • Another Bulldog commit, 3B Jordan Blaze out of DeSoto Central High School, was taken by the Boston Red Sox in the 3rd round with the 89th overall pick.

Ole Miss:

  • Round 3 – Pick 74: Baltimore Orioles – SS Anthony Servideo

  • Round 4 – Pick 107: Seattle Mariners – 3B Tyler Keenan

High School Prospects 

  • Round 5 – Pick 132: Detroit Tigers – 3B Colt Keith out of Biloxi High School (Committed to Arizona State)
