U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst Warns People About Coronavirus-related Fraud

Recently, the Federal Trade Commission announced that Americans have lost over $13.4 million to coronavirus-related fraud.

U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst made an appearance on Friday’s episode of The Gallo Show to talk about the fraud issues going on across the nation and how people can take precautionary measures.

“We as consumers need to have our guard up, need to be very cautious, need to do our homework, research nonprofits or charities before you give any money,” Hurst said. “The IRS will never ever ask for your banking or personal information via text, via email, or over the phone.”

The U.S. Attorney also noted an increase in online predators, encouraging parents to talk to their children.

If you are suspicious of fraudulent activity, please call the National Center for Disaster Fraud at (866)720-5721 or contact Hurst’s office at justice.gov\sdms.

“The United States Attorney’s office is open for business…and we remain on the front lines with our federal, state, and local law enforcement fighting crime and protecting people,” Hurst said.
