For the first time since 2008, the national price per gallon cost for regular fuel has exceeded $4.00.
On Sunday morning, the AAA motor club reported that the average price had reached $4.009. In a span of 24 hours, that number grew to $4.065.
For Mississippi specifically, the current price per gallon cost is $3.748, which is nearly 50 cents higher than one week ago.

During the first full week of Russia’s invasion on Ukraine, the price of regular gasoline rose by almost 41 cents, representing the second-largest jump in average national prices in a week.
“As Russia’s war on Ukraine continues to evolve and we head into a season where gas prices typically increase, Americans should prepare to pay more for gas than they ever have before,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said in a statement.
