Following the opening weekend of the college baseball season, three Mississippi players were honored with weekly awards.

Peyton Chatagnier, Ole Miss 2B, SEC Co-Player of the Week

Ole Miss made the most of their trip to Texas for the State Farm College Baseball Showdown as the Rebels used three wins over No. 10 TCU, No. 3 Texas Tech, and No. 9 Texas to bolster themselves atop the college baseball rankings for the first time in program history, and they could not have done it without second baseman Peyton Chatagnier. His best game came against the Longhorns on Monday when he went 3-for-4 with three doubles. Overall, the sophomore out of Cypress, Texas, hit. 455 with four doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored—good enough to be named SEC Co-Player of the Week with Wes Clarke of South Carolina.

Landon Sims, Mississippi State RHP, SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week

Alongside Caleb Bolden of Arkansas, Mississippi State second-year freshman Landon Sims was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after a dominating performance in the Bulldogs’ season-opening win over No. 12 Texas. Sims, a native of Cumming, Georgia, entered the game on Saturday with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Going against the Longhorns’ top three hitters, the right-hander only needed 16 pitches to strike out the side and maintain Mississippi State’s four-run lead. He went on to retire all 12 batters he faced—10 of which were strikeouts—earning his second career victory. The more than impressive outing also notched Sims as the Golden Spikes Award D1Baseball Performance of the Week.

Hunter Stanley, Southern Miss RHP, C-USA Pitcher of the Week

On Saturday, Southern Miss senior right-hander Hunter Stanley proved why he deserves to be a starting pitcher. In his first career start, after 37 relief appearances over the last two seasons, Stanley threw a one-hitter over six innings of work. His thirteen strikeouts were the most by a Golden Eagle since Nick Sandlin, who now plays for the Cleveland Indians, posted 13 versus Rice in 2018.
