A Vicksburg police officer has been hospitalized after reportedly being forced into a car crash.
Police Chief Penny Jones said that Officer Jeremy Herrington was involved in a wreck near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 61 North on Thursday around 12:30 a.m. Authorities contend that the officer’s squad car was forced off the roadway by another vehicle, prompting Herrington to crash into a tree.
The officer sustained injuries during the wreck and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Herrington is currently said to be in stable condition.
“The crash is under investigation, and we are working the incident to determine further details,” Jones stated. “We ask the community to keep Officer Herrington in their thoughts and prayers as we hope for his full and speedy recovery.”
No further details have been provided at this time.
