‘We need all types’: Mississippi Blood Services incentivizing more donations

Residents of the Magnolia State are being encouraged to give blood at a local donation center.

Mississippi Blood Services Donor Resources Specialist Brittany Mitchell is calling on frequent visitors to ask friends and family members to donate at a facility in the state in order to provide blood for hospital patients in dire need.

“We have many regulars. We’ve become friends,” Mitchell said on MidDays with Gerard Gibert. “Tell a friend, encourage them to come in and give it a shot, and they’ll more than likely come back.”

To incentivize people to visit an MBS location, those who donate in May will be given a free t-shirt at all centers. In addition, for a period of time, MBS has expanded its prize wheel to its Cleveland center for Mississippi Delta residents to receive a gift after giving blood.

“We have a really nice black ‘hero in disguise’ one at our centers – Flowood, Cleveland, and Oxford – and then we have a white neon, retro kind of vibed one for mobile drives,” Mitchell said. “People love the prize wheel here at our Flowood location, so we decided to extend that and kind of see what our donors think in Cleveland this week. For a limited time, you could win a tumbler, little MBS items, and a gift card ranging from $10 to $100.”
