A law enforcement officer in Mississippi is on the other side of justice after being arrested on kidnapping and domestic violence charges.
James Burnett Sr., an officer with the Winona Police Department, was arrested at a home on Highway 82 in Kilmichael on June 27. Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department took him into custody.
Though details remain slim, the Winona Police Department has released an official statement regarding the officer’s arrest.
“On Friday, June 27, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Winona Police Department was made aware that one of its off-duty police officers had been arrested by a neighboring law enforcement agency,” the statement reads. “The officer has since been placed on administrative leave until further notice. The Winona Police Department is fully cooperating with the arresting agency. Further information will be released pending completion of the investigation.”

More information is expected to be released as authorities investigate Burnett’s arrest.
