In the Mississippi Mud Monsters inaugural season, the team is already sending talent to the next level.
The Frontier League team, which made Trustmark Park in Pearl their home after the departure of the Mississippi Braves, announced Tuesday that pitcher Zack Morris has been signed by the Colorado Rockies.
“This is a milestone for our organization,” Mud Monsters General Manager Andrew Seymour said. “Zack’s signing shows that what we’re building here matters – not just to our fans, but to the baseball world. He believed in us from the beginning, and now he’s the first to take that next big step. We’re proud of him, and we’re proud that the Mud Monsters are officially on the map.”
A social media video shows the moment manager Jay Pecci announced the move to the team:
The Cabot, Ark., native pitched in nine games for the Mud Monsters, posting a 3.85 ERA in 16.1 innings of mound work. Morris totaled 29 strikeouts to just three walks.
“This is exactly the kind of moment we coach for,” Mud Monsters manager Jay Pecci said. “Zack came in, did the work, and got better every time out. He’s got the stuff, sure, but it’s the way he competes, the way he carries himself that made him stand out. We’re thrilled to see him earn this opportunity.”
Morris began his collegiate career for the Arkansas Razorbacks before finishing at TCU in 2024.
