Two arrests have been made in connection with a Philadelphia shooting that claimed the life of an individual and left three others suffering injuries.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, Carthage natives Ja’Tavious Johnson, 20, and Jacob Triplett, 20, were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. A multi-agency effort led to their arrest, with the Carthage Police Department and Leake County Sheriff’s Office being credited with assisting authorities in Philadelphia.
Around noon on Sunday, officers responded to a location near West Walnut Street after receiving a call that shots had been fired at a large birthday party with multiple reported victims.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement reportedly found 19-year-old Jamari Hickman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hickman was rushed to a local hospital after officers gave him emergency aid on the scene. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
As for the other victims, two were reported to have minor wounds from bullets grazing their arms and legs. The unidentified individuals were taken to a local hospital, treated, and later released, police say. The other victim received a more serious gunshot wound to the leg and was transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for additional treatment.
While two people have been locked up in this case, police say they are still investigating and that more arrests are expected.
