For the second straight day, the Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed over 300 new cases of COVID-19.

With the confirmation of 318 new cases, the state’s total number of cases rises to 10,801. The MSDH also reported 13 additional deaths, meaning that 493 Mississippians have tragically passed away due to the virus.

* In today’s report, the MSDH noted that 2 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths from May 4–5 were identified through death certificate reports.

To date, 1,416 cases of COVID-19 and 231 deaths have been reported at long-term care facilities in Mississippi.

During Thursday’s press briefing, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs stated that Mississippi has been successful in flattening its curve to this point, but he encouraged everyone to continue to take precautionary measures to ensure we don’t “lose the ground we’ve gained.” These steps include following social distancing guidelines, wearing a mask in public and proper handwashing hygiene.
