The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is inviting the public to chime in on an environmental assessment offering two options regarding a major solar project planned to generate power in Chickasaw County.
TVA has entered into a power purchase agreement with NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) to purchase the power generated by the proposed Okolona solar project. The project is expected to produce up to 145 megawatts in capacity and would be constructed, maintained, and operated by the Florida-based renewable energy company.

The environmental assessment draft includes two alternatives, which the public is urged to contemplate:
- No Action Alternative – Under this option, TVA would not purchase the power generated by the project, nor would it be involved in the project.
- Action Alternative – Under this option, NEER would construct, maintain, and operate the 145-MW solar power facility. The facility would occupy approximately 950 acres of a 1,700-acre project area south of Okolona. TVA would be involved.
Additional information on each proposal can be found here. TVA invited the public to submit comments, which must be received or postmarked no later than May 28. Any comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and be available for public inspection.
