Brad Arnold, the founding member of the Mississippi-based band 3 Doors Down, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
The Escatawpa native took to social media on Wednesday to announce the “not-so-good news” of a clear cell renal cell carcinoma diagnosis after he paid a visit to the hospital while not feeling well. The kidney disease, per Arnold, has prompted the band to cancel its upcoming summer tour.

“We serve a mighty God, and He can overcome anything, so I have no fear,” Arnold stated. “I sincerely am not scared of [the cancer] at all.”

3 Doors Down, best known for hit songs “Kryptonite,” “Here Without You,” and “When I’m Gone,” formed in the Magnolia State in 1996 with Arnold serving as the lead singer. The group has won multiple Billboard Awards over the course of its nearly 30 years on the music scene.
“I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get. I think it’s time for me to listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit,” the 46-year-old said, referencing the band’s 2008 song about resilience in the face of adversity.
According to the National Cancer Institute, clear cell renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney disease in adults. In Arnold’s case, the cancer has metastasized into one of his lungs.
“This’ll be a battle, so we need our prayer warriors! Thank y’all for being the best fans in the world. We love y’all,” an official statement from 3 Doors Down reads.
