Three years of beaver fever dreams in Mississippi have now become a beaver fever reality with the state’s first Buc-ee’s opening along the Gulf Coast.
Back in 2022, officials confirmed that the remarkably popular Texas-based gas station/convenience store would be setting up shop in Pass Christian, and the hype only increased as folks eagerly counted down the days that they would be able to indulge in all the mega store’s various offerings.
Well, the countdown clock has reached all zeroes now that Mississippi’s inaugural Buc-ee’s has officially come to fruition after a few slight delays. Officials gathered in Harrison County on Monday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Buc-ee’s to the public, and the public displayed a resounding semblance of enthusiasm, as folks sprinted into the colossal convenience store.

What to know before visiting Buc-ee’s
Mississippi’s 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s includes 120 fueling positions and 24 EV charging stations for motorists. Being the world’s largest gas station, one would expect to see a large number of big rigs at Buc-ee’s. Well, that’s not the case as no Buc-ee’s franchises offer gas pumps for 18-wheelers. Mississippi’s location is not the exception. However, one thing Buc-ee’s prides itself on is having fuel prices either cheaper or on par with its neighboring competition.
Another area of importance to Buc-ee’s is its dining options. From Beaver Nuggets to brisket sandwiches to honey-roasted nuts to a variety of jerkies, the convenience store guarantees to have something that will please just about every palate. Buc-ee’s also aims to please coffee lovers with hot and cold brew options, along with various sodas, energy drinks, and juices for those who don’t partake in java consumption.
As for what may be Buc-ee’s most popular offering — clean restrooms — those hesitant to relieve themselves in gas stations’ bathrooms have nothing to fear. Buc-ee’s, which has been tabbed by Cintas Corporation as having the “Cleanest Bathrooms in America,” promises not only to keep its toilets clean around the clock, but also to offer a large quantity of them so that folks don’t have to worry about lengthy wait times.
And if you’re not quite sold yet, consider how Buc-ee’s supports the local economy. Anyone on the fence about supporting a large company over a local mom-and-pop business ought to consider that Buc-ee’s hires local, pays its employees well, and offers competitive benefits. Store cashiers make over $17 per hour while team leaders earn up to or over $21 per hour. Each Mississippi employee is also expected to receive full benefits, a 6% matching 401k, and three weeks of paid vacation.
The Pass Christian Buc-ee’s is open 24 hours per day and 365 days a year, meaning every day motorists, and holiday travelers alike, will have somewhere to stop at any given moment. The new store is located at 8245 Firetower Road.
