A man who barricaded himself inside a shed during a police standoff on Wednesday night is now dead.
Per a report from WLOX, law enforcement went to a home on Turan Road and Highway 67 in Saucier around 6 p.m. in reference to a court order for 40-year-old Jason Simmons. Upon arriving, Harrison County sheriff’s deputies say shots were fired at them by the subject, who then went into a shed near the residence.
The surrounding areas were shut down to traffic as SWAT team members attempted to negotiate with Simmons. Around 10:30 p.m., the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to the Biloxi-based TV station that the man was deceased, and standoff was over.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Simmons displayed a firearm during the standoff, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between him and officers. He was struck and killed.
No officers were injured during the incident, which remains under investigation.
