A man accused of killing his wife at a Jackson apartment complex has been taken into custody.
Officials with the Jackson Police Department said that officers were called to the Westwood Apartments on Robinson Street around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Police were responding to a report that a man had barricaded himself in the complex’s leasing office after shooting his spouse.
A standoff between law enforcement and the subject, identified as 52-year-old Ron Christopher Allen, ensued. Additional shots were fired by Allen after locking himself in the office, but police have not yet confirmed who the gunfire was directed toward.
Police Chief Joseph Wade reports that the subject ultimately surrendered to authorities without further incident. Officials recovered the suspect’s weapon and processed the scene.
After police handcuffed Allen, they discovered that he had shot 24-year-old Maleah Bass seven times, taking her life. The two are believed to have been estranged from one another. Allen is believed to have discovered that Bass had been romantically involved with another person, prompting a violent reaction.
Charges against Allen have not been announced by JPD at this time. Wade touted the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, the Clinton Police Department, the Byram Police Department, and Capital Police for assisting in this case.
