A man on the run from Adams County law enforcement was captured Tuesday – more than two years after officers began looking for him.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Billy Shane Hembree was found at approximately 3:40 p.m. inside an abandoned house on Silver Creek Road in Wilkinson County. Ironically, law enforcement came across Hembree when searching for another wanted fugitive.
Hembree had an outstanding warrant dating back to April 2024 when he was accused of stealing and destroying tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of AT&T cable wire. He is charged with grand larceny and malicious mischief.
The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office and Woodville Police Department assisted the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in taking Hembree into custody. He has since been booked at the Adams County Jail and awaits his initial court appearance.
“This arrest is another example of what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together toward a common goal,” Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said. “Hembree had managed to avoid capture for more than two years, but today, his time on the rum comes to an end.
“I want to sincerely thank Deputy OJ Packnet and the entire Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Chief Liamux Rutledge and the Woodville Police Department, for their outstanding assistance. It was an extremely hot and humid day, but bringing another fugitive into custody made every bit of the hard work and sweat worthwhile.”
