More than $22 million in federal funding has been approved to support recovery projects in north Mississippi linked to Winter Storm Fern.
Less than a month after announcing $13 million for recovery efforts related to the January ice storm that devastated much of the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is doling out more cash to help local governments get back on their feet.
Notably, the following cities and counties will be among those receiving funding:
- $12.8 million to Lafayette County for debris removal efforts.
- $5.2 million to Panola County for debris removal efforts.
- $727,479 to City of Oxford for debris removal efforts.
- $702,852to City of Water Valley for debris removal efforts.
- $597,883 to City of Corinth for debris removal efforts.
FEMA is reimbursing recovery costs at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments’ response and recovery work. The state government also set up a revolving loan program, allowing counties and municipalities to access funding while awaiting federal reimbursement
Winter Storm Fern hit in late January and impacted over half of Mississippi, destroying trees and power lines, leaving roughly 180,000 customers without power at its peak, and killing 29.
