A Mississippi faith-based substance addiction and abuse recovery center fell victim to a fire.
Mercy House Adult and Teen Challenge CEO Matt Milliman said the blaze broke at one of the nonprofit’s aftercare homes in Georgetown on Wednesday night. A lightning strike is believed to be what caused the fire.
The home served as a residence for staff and those who have gone through the organization’s rehab program. Nobody was injured in the fire, but the home was completely destroyed.
“Last night, one of our Mercy House aftercare homes, which houses program graduates and staff members, was struck by lightning and completely burned to the ground,” Milliman wrote on Facebook.
“The home and all of its contents were lost. Most importantly, we are incredibly grateful that all of the residents inside the home are safe and no one was injured,” Milliman continued. “Please keep Mercy House and those affected by the fire in your prayers as we navigate this situation and determine the next steps in the days ahead.”
Mercy House prides itself as a 14-month men’s residential Christian discipleship program with a mission to provide its residents with a “comprehensive faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society.”
