As protests are going on across the state, some Mississippi sheriff’s departments are trying to approach the peaceful displays with empathy—not force.
“We are trained to take the necessary precautions, but we chose to do things a little bit different,” Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said on Thursday’s episode of The JT Show. “What I mean by that is with everything that you see going on right now nationwide, the issue is people feel like they haven’t been heard. Rather than to meet peaceful protesters with force, we chose to take a different route. We chose to use empathy even though we are on standby for the worst.”
A group of people from Adams County held a march from George F. West Boulevard to High Street yesterday, and everything was peaceful according to Sheriff Patten.
