Mississippi high school students interested in agriculture have a new opportunity to get involved.
The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce announced Monday that applications are now open for the 2026-27 Mississippi Agriculture Youth Council. The application process will be open through April 15.
Established in 2021, the Mississippi Agriculture Youth Council brings together student leaders from across the state to gain hands-on experience in Mississippi’s top industry. Its goal is to promote leadership development, career exploration, and workforce readiness, according to Commissioner Andy Gipson.
“The Mississippi Agriculture Youth Council is an important investment in the future of our state, and we are proud to continue to build on its success,” Gipson said. “As part of this unique council, students gain firsthand exposure to the agriculture industry, connect with leaders, and develop leadership and career skills that will serve them well in the year ahead.
“By helping our young people understand the diverse opportunities in agriculture, we’re also helping prepare the next generation of leaders who will support and strengthen Mississippi’s number one industry. I encourage any students with an interest in agriculture to apply.”
Students interested in applying must be current high school juniors enrolled in public, private, or homeschool programs. Those accepted will serve on the council during their senior year. 12 to 15 students are selected annually.
