Officials are investigating an eerie discovery of items possessed by the man facing charges in connection with a road-rage shooting in Rankin County.
During the initial court appearance for Walter Ainsworth, who allegedly shot into a woman’s vehicle near the Ross Barnett Reservoir on Oct. 27, it was revealed that the subject had multiple peculiar items, including a bulletproof vest, brass knuckles, gas masks, flares, handcuffs, a baton, and a flamethrower in his vehicle and a camper he owns. A more chilling discovery was made when investigators found a human skull and lower jawbone.
The human remains, which were found in an unincorporated area between Brandon, Flowood, and Pearl, were sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for analysis. According to officials, licensed anthropologists will assist the state in conducting DNA testing to identify the deceased.
As for Ainsworth, he is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drive-by shooting into an occupied vehicle, and more charges are possible. He is being held behind bars without bond and will undergo a mental health evaluation, as requested by his legal team.
