Following the departure of Josh Brooks for Mississippi College, Belhaven has found a new head men’s basketball coach in Boomer Roberts.
Roberts comes to the Division III school in Jackson after most recently serving as head coach at Division II Purdue Northwest, where he helped the struggling program take major strides over seven seasons. Beforehand, he was the head coach at NAIA Trinity International.

“We’re excited to welcome the Roberts family to Belhaven and can’t wait to have Boomer Roberts on campus to lead our young men,” Belhaven athletic director Scott Little said. “Our program has had a lot of success recently and his career achievements in a variety of settings is an ideal match for our future goals.”
Roberts’ most success came at Trinity International, where he compiled a record of 84-48 across four seasons. He led the team from five wins in the 2013-14 campaign to 30 wins in the 2016-17 season, which included a regular-season conference title and a quarterfinal appearance in the NAIA national championship tournament. He was subsequently named NCCAA Region Co-Coach of the Year.
At Purdue Northwest, Roberts’ overall record was 65-108. He took over a 2017-18 team that went 2-26, and by the 2023-24 season, the team reached a program-best 12-16 mark. He guided the Pride to three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Tournament appearances in 2020-21, 2022-23, and 2023-24.
Before becoming a head coach, Roberts was the top assistant at his alma mater Vanguard University. During his time there, he helped the Lions to an NAIA Division I national championship in 2014.
Roberts takes over a Belhaven program coming off a historic season. The Blazers compiled a 21-5 overall record and won its first share of a regular season conference championship since moving to Division III in 2015. It was also the first time since 2009-10 the program surpassed the 20-win mark.
