Even if you haven’t heard of them, it’s easy to tell some of the local bands based on name.
Pothole Paradise – an ode to the oft-hit pothole in Jackson streets – is an indie rock band blending aspects of funk, blues, and modern rock. Waterworks Curve – referencing the notoriously sharp bend of Interstate 55 in Jackson – is known locally for its garage soul originals.
Friday’s closer, Kashus Culpepper, is an industry fast-riser and will bring his blend of country, soul, blues, and Southern rock to the stage. Following his Cathead Jam appearance, the Alabama native is set to join Jelly Roll as a supporting act in June before sharing stages with Thomas Rhett and Niall Horan in July.
Saturday’s closer, Allen Stone, is arguably the biggest nationally known name on the bill. USA Today called him a “pitch-perfect powerhouse” for his blend of gospel, modern soul, and funk. His self-titled album charted across multiple categories following its 2011 release, including the song “Sleep,” which reached No. 18 on Adult Alternative Airplay. Stone also performed “Unaware” on both Conan and The Ellen DeGeneres Show and was later featured on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ song “Neon Cathedral.”
For the sixth year, Dreamnote Foundation will be the beneficiary of festival proceeds. Dreamnote is a nonprofit dedicated to improving access to music and art throughout Mississippi in underserved communities.
Tickets to Cathead Jam range from $40 to $55 for single-day passes and about $75 for a weekend pass. VIP packages are available for around $265.
