Clarkdale High School sophomore football player Gavan Clearman was killed in a car wreck, the program’s booster club said in a social media post.
“Our football family is grieving today. We tragically lost one of our players in a car accident this morning,” Clarkdale Football Boosters wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. “We are praying for God’s peace, strength, and comfort to surround his family, friends, teammates and coaches. We ask our community to please lift this family up in prayer.”

Clearman was 16 years old and played on the offensive line. This past season, Clarkdale went 9-4 and fell in the third round of the MHSAA 2A playoffs to Heidelberg.
Clearman was also a member of the school’s archery team. Outside of sports, he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Barnett Independent Church.
“Gavan had a heart of gold, and he will be remembered as a loving son, brother, grandson, and friend,” an obituary from Robert Barham Family Funeral Home reads.
Clearman’s funeral will take place Monday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at Evangel Temple Church in Meridian. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 1, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
