Residents across Mississippi are stepping up to help a state trooper injured in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.
An online fundraiser called “Support Tavon Moore’s Road to Recovery” was recently set up for Moore. As of Monday morning, over $3,500 had been raised to cover basic-life, travel, childcare, and medical costs for Moore and his family.
“Tavon is not only a dedicated law enforcement officer but also a loving husband and father of three children,” wrote Kimberly Payne, who set up the GoFundMe. “This unexpected tragedy has turned his family’s world upside down. His wife and children are doing their best to stay strong, but the emotional and financial toll is immense.”

“Tavon has spent his career protecting and serving others. Now, it’s our turn to surround him and his family with love and support,” the fundraiser’s description continued. “Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.”
On Aug. 2, Moore was involved in a crash on the exit ramp at the intersection of Highway 67 and Highway 605 in Harrison County. He was on his patrol motorcycle when he ended up off the road and near a ditch.
Moore, a native of Wiggins, was transported to Gulfport Memorial Hospital before being transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans. While he is in stable condition, the road to recovery is expected to take several months.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but according to officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, no other vehicles were believed to be involved.
