Deer season framework announced for South Delta region

During spring and summer 2019, extensive flooding occurred in the South Delta region. Data collection, including hunter observation and harvest data, will be imperative over the next 2–3 years to properly assess the full impacts of the prolonged flooding.

During the August 21 meeting of the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, white-tailed deer seasons and bag limits were proposed for the South Delta region impacted by flooding. The proposed framework and South Delta Zone (see map below) are as follows:

Season Framework:

Dates: October 15– January 5 (public and private land)
Bag limits: 2 antlerless deer and 2 bucks
*For bucks, 1 must meet antler criteria and 1 can be any antlered deer (private land only)
South Delta Zone: All Mississippi lands south of Bunge Road; south of Hwy 14; west of Hwy 149; west of Hwy 3; west of Hwy 61 from Hwy 3 to Business 61 and to I-20; and east of the of state line (in MS River).
