Authorities are investigating the death of an elderly woman at a Mississippi church.
Officials confirm that the victim, identified as 73-year-old Ollie Hamilton, was killed at Smith Chapel Holiness Church in the Athens community near Aberdeen on Wednesday evening. Hamilton was found deceased at the place of worship, prompting a call to law enforcement.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that an unidentified suspect is in custody at this time while adding that the community is not believed to be in any danger. Officials plan to provide more details about the suspect and the charges the individual faces at a later time.
Police have not released any motive linked to Hamilton’s killing but reported it as a murder.
“Please pray for this family and their church,” Sheriff Kevin Crook wrote.
