An escaped inmate has been returned to Oktibbeha County for his initial court hearing after being captured in Tennessee last week.
William Strohm, who broke out of jail in early December, was taken into custody in his hometown of Memphis on Sunday, Dec. 24.
Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Strohm before working with Oktibbeha County deputies to extradite him to Mississippi.
According to investigators, Strohm escaped the facility after jumping over an air conditioning unit, scaling the roof, and jumping over the perimeter fence. He was then on the run for three weeks before his capture.
Strohm was returned to Mississippi on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and was scheduled to receive bond during an initial court hearing two days later. His hearing has since been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The Memphis native was originally serving a one-year sentence for burglary at the time of his escape and had only a few months remaining before his release. That sentence is now expected to be extended.
