Gov. Tate Reeves has ordered flags to fly half-staff in Hinds County on Saturday in honor of late state Rep. Bo Brown.
“State Representative Bo Brown spent his life serving his community and improving the lives of those around him,” Reeves wrote on social media. “To honor his legacy, I directed flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday in Hinds County.”
Brown passed away Monday at the age of 81 after suffering from a “long illness,” his family said.
The Democratic lawmaker served District 70, which encompasses a portion of Hinds County including part of Jackson, from 2020 until his passing.
Brown was a public servant who spent parts of his career as a teacher, coach, Jackson city councilman, and then in the legislature. He was also a husband, father, and minister.
Brown was president of the Jackson City Council three times across his tenure from 1997 to 2005. Upon being elected to the House, he used his position to promote legislation aimed at strengthening the capital city and served on the Judiciary B, Medicaid, and Transportation committees during the most recent session.
“Rep. Brown was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about Jackson and worked hard to improve the lives of those he represented,” Reeves wrote on social media when learning of Brown’s passing.
