Oxford native Cooper Pratt is being called up to the MLB with the move being made official by the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.
Pratt, who played his prep years at Magnolia Heights School, was selected by the Brewers in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s since worked the farm system and has been a top-five prospect within the organization for the past couple of years playing for the AA Biloxi Shuckers and AAA Nashville Sounds.
The Brewers announced Pratt’s promotion on social media with a video of him getting the call up during the sixth inning of Nashville’s game against the Durham Bulls on Sunday.

According to MLB.com, Pratt is expected to take over as Milwaukee’s regular shortstop, pushing Joey Ortiz to a third-base timeshare with David Hamilton. Ahead of Milwaukee’s Tuesday night game against the Cleveland Guardians, the club did list Pratt as the starting shortstop in an early version of the lineup.
At 21 years, 302 days old, Pratt is set to be the third-youngest player to start an MLB game at shortstop this season behind former Jackson Prep standout Konnor Griffin (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Kevin McGonigle (Detroit Tigers).
Pratt was hitting .241/.349/.386 with six home runs, four triples, 32 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 58 games with Nashville. In 120 games with Biloxi in 2025, he hit .238/.343/.348 with eight home runs, 22 doubles, 62 RBI, and 31 stolen bases.
Milwaukee will open its series against Cleveland on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. CT. For those who want to tune in to Pratt’s debut, the game will be on MLB.TV. The Brewers currently hold the top spot in the National League Central division with a 43-26 record.
