Gov. Tate Reeves announced Monday that more than $23 million in federal funding is being distributed to communities across Mississippi for public infrastructure improvements.
The funding, part of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program authorized by Congress and administered by the Mississippi Development Authority, is intended to help local cities and counties address pressing infrastructure needs such as water and sewer systems, drainage, roads, and public buildings.
“These investments empower cities and counties to take on real projects that improve everyday life – from safer roads to stronger public facilities and more reliable services families depend on,” Reeves said. “Our local leaders know their communities best, and this funding gives them the tools to tackle those needs head-on.”
The CDBG program provides federal funds to support community development projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents, address blight, or respond to urgent health and safety needs where other resources are not available.
Bill Cork, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, said the grants will help strengthen essential infrastructure and improve long-term service reliability in communities statewide, adding that the agency works closely with local leaders to ensure the funding is used effectively.
“These investments in infrastructure and public facilities strengthen essential services, improve quality of life and help communities better prepare for future needs,” Cork said. “We are always proud to support projects that make a lasting difference for Mississippians.”
