Greyhound is officially offering service to Mississippi’s capital city once again after terminating operations at Jackson Union Station over one year ago.

The transit company has agreed to return to its prior location on West Capitol Street to offer two daily routes, which include a westbound route connecting Jackson to Shreveport, La. and Dallas, Tex. and an eastbound route that goes to Birmingham, Ala. and Atlanta, Ga.

“Greyhound is so pleased to resume service to Jackson,” Gilda Brewton, regional vice president for Greyhound, said. “We are grateful to the Jackson Redevelopment Authority (JRA) for their invaluable support in making this possible. With the holiday season upon us, Greyhound is committed to providing the great people of Jackson and the surrounding areas with convenient and affordable bus travel options.”

Officials confirmed that Greyhound had temporarily moved its business to Love’s Travel Stop in Flowood in late August of 2022 after issuing complaints to the city and the legislature about the conditions at Union Station. According to Greyhound, the station had leaks throughout the building, homeless individuals sleeping at the location overnight, and a lack of overall upkeep.

Now, the transit company has agreed to resume operations at Union Station starting Wednesday, December 6. Those wishing to purchase tickets can visit Greyhound’s website or app.

“Greyhound has always been integral to this country’s transportation system,” U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson said. “I am proud to welcome Greyhound back to Jackson, Mississippi, as part of an affordable transportation alternative.”
