A 15-year-old student is behind bars for allegedly pulling a gun on his fellow students and then firing in the direction of a school bus, according to the Gulfport Police Department.
Lt. Jason DuCré confirmed officers took Kaiden Jeremiah Ashford into custody and charged the teen with one count of possession of a handgun on school property and one count of shooting at a vehicle.
On Aug. 18, officers responded to the area of Turnberry Avenue and George Street around 4:05 p.m. after getting reports of a person with a gun.
The two-day investigation found Ashford had gotten into a verbal altercation with a handful of other students before the group got off the bus and Ashford brandished the firearm. He then discharged it several times in the direction of the bus before fleeing the scene.
Ashford is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center with his bond being set at $1 million by Judge Diane Ladner.
