Latest MSDH report includes record-high 98 COVID-19 deaths

While the number of new COVID-19 cases was below 2,000 for the second straight day, the Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed *98 deaths—the highest such report since the onset of the pandemic. 

To date, 5,284 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. With today’s report of 1,648 new cases of COVID-19, the state’s total rises up to 241,957. 

*MSDH Note: 46 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between October 28, 2020 and January 8, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations saw a slight decrease in the latest data from the MSDH. 

As of Monday, an estimated 198,888 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19. 

The latest MSDH data shows that 55,399 Mississippians have received the vaccine. Appointments are now available for healthcare workers and those over the age of 75.
