The man accused of killing a Mississippi soldier and a Ukrainian refugee he once dated in a Valentine’s Day double homicide has been charged.
Caleb Fosnaugh, 25, has been charged with two counts of murder, along with felony breaking and entering, in connection with the deaths of Hamilton native Matthew Wade and Kateryna Tovmash. The incident occurred in Tovmash’s home in North Carolina on Saturday, with Fosnaugh allegedly shooting the two victims to death.
According to authorities, Fosnaugh and Tovmash had previously been in a romantic relationship. Fosnaugh was arrested in Ohio the same day the two victims were found dead and was transported back to North Carolina days later, where he was officially charged.

Wade was a member of the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Bragg. According to a social media post by Tovmash’s brother, the female victim was a Ukrainian refugee who fled to the U.S. during her country’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
“A refugee who fled the war in Ukraine seeking safety in the United States, was murdered in her own home in North Carolina. This is a second time for the past year, when a Ukrainian woman who is a refugee and is hiding for safety in North Carolina, gets murdered by a man,” wrote Kateryna’s brother, Michael Tovmash, referencing the high-profile death of Iryna Zarutska.
In the meantime, Wade’s family is calling on the public to help contribute to Tovmash’s funeral expenses. Wade’s funeral will be covered by the military.
“Matt will always be more than a headline, especially to us,” his sister, Megan, wrote on Facebook. “If you knew him as a person, you knew he was the funniest guy around. No way you could be sad with him. He was kind. He was everything a brother needed to be and more.”
