Public Service Commissioner Dane Maxwell has approved the plans for two separate $80 million solar facilities in Mississippi.

Following a recent Public Service Commission meeting, Maxwell drafted the order, ultimately moving forward both the Moonshot Solar Project in Hancock County and the Cane Creek Solar Project in Clarke County.

“I’m pleased to see this project move forward and the opportunity it presents,” he said. “Construction of the facility at no cost to ratepayers providing significant impact to the county and power to the grid makes this a win all the way around.”

According to Maxwell’s office, both projects will provide a multitude of economic benefits to not only their respective areas but the state as a whole.

Each project’s facility will be a 78.5 megawatt, electric-generating station delivering wholesale power directly to the Mississippi Power Company/Southern Company transmission grid.

Construction is set to be finished around August of 2021. In total, the two projects will create approximately 610 jobs.
