Update: Escaped inmate captured in Perry County

Update: 

According to the MDOC, 39-year-old Corey Lee Alred was captured this afternoon without incident in the vicinity of Wendell Road off of Mississippi Highway 42.

Alred originally escaped a work detail on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections is searching for an escaped state inmate in Perry County.

39-year-old Corey Lee Alred escaped a work detail just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday. He was still dressed in his MDOC green and white uniform. He was last spotted off Highway 42, west of Richton.

Alred is assigned to the South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI) in Greene County. He is serving a total of nine years for burglary larceny of an unoccupied dwelling in Panola County, embezzlement in Tate County and burglary of a residential area in Tallahatchie County.

Alred, MDOC #184461, is a white male standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
