Millsaps College is returning to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after 15 years in the Southern Athletic Association, the Division III school announced Tuesday.
The move will take effect for the 2027-28 academic year after the SCAC Presidents Council approved Millsaps’ application for membership. The Majors previously competed in the SCAC from 1998 to 2012, winning 22 conference championships across all sports.
“The SCAC has long been an important part of Millsaps athletics history, and we are excited to renew this longstanding relationship beginning in the fall of 2027,” Millsaps athletic director Justin LeBlanc said. “Rejoining the SCAC represents an exciting opportunity for the future of Millsaps College and our athletic department as we continue to provide an outstanding academic and athletic experience for our student-athletes.”
According to the college, returning to the SCAC “creates new opportunities to strengthen regional competition, renew historic rivalries, and continue building championship-caliber programs while remaining committed to the Division III philosophy that places academics at the center of the student-athlete experience.”
Pending future conference realignment, Millsaps’ departure will leave Berry College, Centre College, Maryville College, Oglethorpe University, Rhodes College, Sewanee: The University of the South, Southwestern University, and Trinity University in the SAA.
Millsaps will join Austin College, Centenary College, Colorado College, Concordia University (TX), University of Dallas, Hendrix College, LeTourneau University, University of the Ozarks, University of St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University in the SCAC.
Millsaps currently sponsors 19 varsity sports, all of which will compete in the SCAC, and has roughly 400 student-athletes. Additional details about the transition will be announced as the process moves forward.
