Miss. Representative checked into ICU due to coronavirus

Mississippi Representative Manly Barton has been checked into an ICU after testing positive for COVID-19.

On Thursday, Representative Becky Currie broke the news of Barton’s health status while urging people to pray for the representative from District 109.

“My friend and fellow Legislator Manly Barton is in ICU with COVID,” Currie wrote. “Please help me pray for him. He is the kindest man and I enjoy working with him so much.”

On Tuesday, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs announced that at least 30 legislative members and 11 staff members had received positive test results, and yesterday, Speaker Philip Gunn, who was one of the legislators to contract the virus, confirmed that the number was “beyond 40.”

Barton is the first legislative member to be hospitalized due to the coronavirus.
