Ole Miss baseball fans in the Jackson metro will be in for a treat this week as the Mississippi Braves are set to host two members of the Rebels’ 2022 national championship team.

The AA Minor League club out of Pearl announced that “Ole Miss Night” will be held at Trustmark Park on Thursday as the Braves will face off against the Birmingham Barons — who feature former Rebels first baseman Tim Elko and shortstop Jacob Gonzalez on the team’s roster.

Famous for his line, “Don’t let the Rebs get hot,” ahead of Ole Miss’ historic title run, Elko was selected by the White Sox in the 10th round of the 2022 draft. The former Rebel slugger whose statue sits within the third base concourse of Swayze Field will trot into the series against the Braves posting a .297 batting average with 86 hits, eight home runs, and 36 RBI.

Gonzalez, a collegiate All-American and integral piece of Ole Miss’ first-ever championship team was selected by the Chicago White Sox with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He currently boasts a .266 batting average with 83 hits, five home runs, and 40 RBI.

Thursday’s Ole Miss-themed contest will begin at 6:35 p.m. CT. Admission into the game is $5 for fans who show up donning Rebel gear. More information can be found here.
