With Veterans Day taking place this week, Mississippi Congressman Michael Guest has introduced a resolution aimed at honoring the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. military.
The Resolution urges citizens to observe Veterans Day in recognition of the actions by past troops to protect the United States, ensuring the freedoms found in the nation endure. Guest, a Republican who represents Mississippi’s 3rd Congressional District, has introduced the measure in previous years as part of his ongoing effort to recognize and support veterans nationwide.
“I am humbled by the dedicated service and the sacrifice that our United States veterans have given to this country,” Guest stated, “This resolution is a way for the U.S. House of Representatives to demonstrate our deep appreciation for our nation’s heroes. I want to thank all veterans throughout our country for their service to protect my freedom and the freedom of Americans from sea to shining sea. May God bless our veterans.”
Veterans Day was originally known as “Armistice Day” to mark the end of World War I, which concluded on the 11th hour of the 11th day in 1918. It was later expanded to all American veterans following World War II
The measure was introduced with 93 bipartisan cosponsors, including Mississippi congressmen Trent Kelly and Mike Ezell. Kelly, who represents the state’s 1st Congressional District, recently retired from military service after spending more than 38 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard.
