The Mississippi Songwriters Alliance will soon host its inaugural “Red, White, and Blues” benefit and conference to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
The event is set for June 26-27 in Ocean Springs at the Gulf Hills Hotel & Resort and will host a variety of songwriters, musicians, and music lovers from across the state, covering a range of music.
It will not only feature live music but also give visitors the opportunity to interact with Mississippi musicians off the mic. Fundraisers, silent auctions, and other ways to financially support the MSA will also be available to guests.
The benefit’s name, “Red, White, and Blues,” encapsulates the theme of America’s upcoming milestone birthday and the role Mississippi has played in shaping the genres of blues, gospel, and country music in the United States. Keith Johnson, a Mississippi native and great-nephew of blues legend Muddy Waters, will be the event’s headliner.
“Mississippi has always been home to incredible storytellers and songwriters,” MSA President George Cumbest said. “This event is designed to celebrate our musical heritage while bringing together the people who continue creating and preserving that legacy for future generations.”
“Red, White, and Blues” will open at 7 p.m. on June 26 with a welcome dinner for all to fellowship and network with other musicians and songwriters. The following day will serve as both a celebration and a fundraiser for a number of music and educational start-up programs in Mississippi.
