After consecutive days under 700, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,092 new cases of COVID-19.

Today’s report brings the state’s total number of cases up to 145,636. With the confirmation of *16 additional deaths, 3,745 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

*MSDH Note: 1 COVID-19 related death occurred November 12, identified from death certificate reports.

Mississippi hit a peak of 989 hospitalizations over the summer and the current figures show that we are headed back in that direction.

Tuesday, Governor Tate Reeves announced the addition of 19 counties to an order that places hotspot areas under a mask mandate and stricter social distancing guidelines. A total of 41 counties — half of the state’s counties — are now included in the order.

In the midst of surging case numbers, health experts continue to urge everyone to limit the size of their Thanksgiving celebrations. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs expressed concern that we are more likely to let our guard down when around friends and family, which could lead to less mask use and social distancing.
