MSDH confirms 1,193 new COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,193 new cases of COVID-19. 

Today’s report brings the state’s total up to 255,125. With the confirmation of 51 additional deaths, 5,574 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

*35 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 14, 2020 and January 18, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations have dipped below 1,200 for the first time since mid-December. 

The MSDH estimates that 207,769 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.

Monday, Governor Tate Reeves detailed the state’s latest vaccination efforts, surpassing the 100,000 mark as they work to expand capacity. An additional 20,000 appointments were announced and quickly filled for the week of the 25th. The website, covidvaccine.umc.edu, has been tweaked to increase the number of users it can handle and the call center (877 978-6453) has been “quadrupled’ to cut down on wait times.
