MSDH confirms 2,175 new COVID-19 cases, 40 deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 2,175 new cases of COVID-19. 

Today’s report—which follows a record-high 3,255 on Thursday—brings the state’s total up to 233,665. With the confirmation of *40 additional deaths, 5,101 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 14 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between November 26, 2020 and January 1, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations remain above 1,400 as the number of patients in ICU and on ventilators remain at all-time highs. 

As of Monday, an estimated 182,103 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19. 

To date, around 40,000 Mississippians have received the vaccine. Vaccination appointments are now open to those 75 and older. For more information visit https://covidvaccine.umc.edu or call 877-978-6453.
