MSDH confirms 2,290 new COVID-19 cases, 30 deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 2,290 new cases of COVID-19. 

Today’s report—the first day over 2,000 since Saturday—brings the state’s total number of cases up to 259,117. With the confirmation of *30 additional deaths, 5,668 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 2 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 16, 2020 and January 15, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations saw a dip in the latest data from the MSDH. 

To date, Mississippi has administered over 138,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Later today, the MSDH will provide an update on its distribution plan and efforts.
