MSDH confirms 2,342 new COVID-19 cases, 55 deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting the highest COVID-19 case total of the week. 

Today’s report of 2,342—which follows four straight days under 2,000—brings the state’s total up to 248,189. With the confirmation of *55 additional deaths, 5,411 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 28 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 17, 2020 and January 10, 2021, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations saw a slight increase in the latest data from the MSDH. 

As of Monday, an estimated 198,888 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19. 

Later today, the mask mandate in 78 of Mississippi’s 82 counties is set to expire but Governor Tate Reeves has expressed that it will be extended.
