The Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed 2,634 new cases of COVID-19.

Wednesday’s report, which also includes 43 additional deaths, brings the state’s total number of cases up to 200,325. So far, 4,533 Mississippians have passed away from the virus.

Going into Christmas Eve, the outbreak continues to worsen, and State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs continues to stress the importance of keeping all holiday celebrations at a minimum.

The current executive order, recently updated by Governor Tate Reeves, limits indoor crowds to ten or fewer people.

Hospitalizations also continue to climb as 1,267 individuals—the highest since the onset of the pandemic—are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19.
