The Mississippi State Department of Health’s Friday report of 402 new cases of COVID-19 falls just short of tying the state’s largest one-day rise in its total number of cases – 404, which occurred back on May 8th.

The state now has 12,624 cases of COVID-19 and the confirmation of 16 additional deaths brings the total number of Mississippians that have tragically passed away due to virus up to 596.

*MSDH Note – 3 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths between May 5 and May 12 were identified through death certificate reports.

After rising in recent days, the number of hospitalizations and ventilators in use saw declines in the latest report from the MSDH.

To date, 137,973 Mississippians have been tested for COVID-19.
