MSDH confirms 608 new COVID-19 cases with explanation

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 608 new cases of COVID-19, but the sharp increase comes with a caveat. 

According to the MSDH, the latest report, which brings the state’s total up to 315,634, includes 406 cases from August 31, 2020, to May 13, 2021, identified from recent investigations.

With the confirmation of *11 additional deaths, 7,268 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 5 deaths occurred between March 19 and May 10, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations continued to fall in the latest data from the MSDH. 

As of Monday, an estimated 305,388 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
